Golden Globe Nominations – Ryan Gosling Not Robbed

15 Dec

I know the Golden Globes aren’t as respected as The SAGs or the Oscars, but at least someone was smart enough to recognize what a great actor Ryan Gosling is.

As much as I love Ryan, I am really pulling for Brad Pitt for best actor this year. Moneyball was an incredible performance, I said it in yesterday’s post, this was a master class in being not acting.  He didn’t indicate, he didn’t show, he was present in every moment on screen.

Whats really great about the Golden Globes is they are unpredictable, remember these are the people who gave Pia Zadora an award. And everybody drinks at this show, especially the host, thank God they brought back Ricky Gervais.

The Hollywood Foreign press certainly loves them some George Clooney, acting, directing, screenplay noms.

Favorite Nominations

Ryan Gosling – Ides of March – I saw this, he was good, but he was so much better in Drive.

Ryan Gosling – Crazy, Stupid, Love – Saw this, he was hysterical, would love it if he won this. But he is up against the foreign guy from The Artist and these awards are given out by the Foreign press, sooooo…..

Joseph Gordon Levitt – 50/50, great performance, glad to see him get a nom

Brad Pitt – Moneyball – lets hope the streak continues and this is Brad’s year for an Oscar

Viola Davis for The Help – Let this be her year.

Charlize Theron – Young Adult

50/50 – nominated for Best Movie musical or comedy. I saw this movie and this is very well deserved. Who knows maybe it will get an Oscar nod too, the script definitely should.

Albert Brooks for Drive, I was shocked he didnt get a SAG nomination for this performance. But the Globe nom is good, and if he wins, it increases his chance for an Oscar nom.

The best director category is quite an interesting mix

Woody Allen – Midnight In Paris

George Clooney – The Ides Of March

Michel Hazanavicius – The Artist

Alexander Payne – The Descendants

Martin Scorsese – Hugo

And as always we can count on the Globes to acknowledge the new kids on the block with nominations for American Horror Story, Madeline Stowe, Homeland, Damian Lewis, Callie Thorne, New Girl and Enlightened.
