Bubble Watch – Is Your Show on The Bubble

24 Feb

As always thanks to Tv By The Numbers for providing the stats and analysis.

Bubble Watch is a guess on a shows future based on its performance in the key 18-49 demo.

I check the ratings for my favorite shows every week, I know most of my favorites are on the chopping block.  (sniff)

Network By Network her is what is on the Bubble (likely to get cancelled) unless all of the pilots fail miserably, these shows are getting cancelled. (maybe, we are only guessing)

The CW

Getting Cancelled

Hart of Dixie and Ringer : I am not surprised HOD is done, it started out promising, but it has crumbled into the biggest pile of crap.  Ringer on the other hand,  has turned into a tightly written noir piece, too bad it can’t find an audience.  I am going to miss Ioan Gruffod, (purr).

On The Bubble

Supernatural: Its time, the show lost its center when Kripke left, it never regained its former rock anthem glory.

The Secret Circle: The only thing that could save this show is Kevin Williamson’s overall deal with the network, minimum seasons maybe part of his contract unless they pick up one of his new pilots.

Nikita, Gossip Girl and 92010.

ABC

Body of Proof and The River – DOA or up a river without a paddle, pick your cliché

Private Practive is on the Bubble, I guess we will see how Shonda’s new pilot does.

Pretty much everything else, Revenge, Castle, Suburgatory etc are coming back,

CBS

A Gifted Man and Unforgettable – weren’t gifted, and were pretty much forgettable, they are cancelled

The Good Wife, CSI: NY, Rob and Rules of Engagement are on the Bubble. I think Good Wife and CSI will be back.

Everything else is safe for now, depends on how strong the pilots are, they may need to make a little more room. Could the original CSI hang it up, maybe CSI Miami is done for, or what about The Mentalist.

NBC

Pretty much everything they have on is in trouble, but Community, Smash, Are you There?, Chelsea and Harry’s Law are in the most.

Other shows hanging by a thread, Parenthood, 30 Rock and Up All Night.

Looks like Grimm is getting renewed as is Law and Order SVU.

FOX

It would be easier to tell you what is coming back, Glee, New Girl and Bones.

Alcatraz, Terra Nova, Napoleon Dynamite, Fringe and The Finder are likely to get cancelled.

Friday 1/24 What You Should Watch

24 Feb

Fringe is new tonight, and I don’t like the title of the episode “The End of All Things”, just saying way to jinx us.

A Gifted Man is also new, and will be for a few more weeks until it ends it’s freshman season in mid-March.

We also have Blue Bloods, Shark Tank, Undercover Boss and Grimm.

Fringe

The team takes drastic measures to prevent life-threatening events.

A Gifted Man

Michael is determined to help his high school sweetheart (Maggie Siff), who has an irreversible condition; Zeke learns that his best friend’s cancer has returned.

Blue Bloods

When a family friend, an undercover detective, is murdered, Danny embarks on a relentless search for the killer.

Fringe – Tonight’s The Night

24 Feb

“The End of All Things” airs tonight at 9pm on FOX, we have been promised a “game changing” episode and a heartbreaking ending.

When last we left the team, Olivia had been kidnapped and thrown in a cell with Nina, presumably Mr. Jones is holding both. We also learned that the cortexiphan that was under lock and key at Massive Dynamic had been replaced with a placebo. That means, Mr. Jones had replaced Nina with an evil Nina who had AmberOlivia injected. Was it these injections that gave AmberOlivia BlueOlivia’s memories? Perhaps we will find out tonight.

Henry, Peter’s son with RedOlivia returns tonight, and Peter goes into the mind of an Observer to learn more. But will he like what he learns? Since we already know that Olivia has to die in every reality, does Peter have to let AmberOlivia die to save his son.  I feel a Sophie’s Choice moment coming, which as we all know is heartbreaking by definition.

OR, another theory, Peter has to die, because we know his existence has screwed everything up. Either way someone dies tonight, and I wouldn’t put it past this show to kill off Peter or Olivia especially if it is going off the air. When they return in a  few weeks we only have 8 episodes left, it’s not unreasonable to think we could close out the final 8  without Anna or Josh.

If this is the last season, I have not been disappointed, this has been the strongest of the last four. Don’t get me wrong each season had it’s stand out episode, “White Tulip” and “Peter” come to mind, but this season has delivered more save on the DVR to re-watch episodes than any other.

I started re-watching the show from the beginning on Amazon, I wanted to see how the characters and stories have evolved.  It is amazing how much this show has changed, how the creative team took us from “case of the week” to an engrossing study of the human condition.

Joshua Jackson has demonstrated what a fine actor he truly is, his scenes with John Noble will go down as some of the best father/son interactions in TV history. The anchor of the show is John Noble, the character he has created in Walter Bishop is so multi-dimensional, in a lesser skilled actor Walter could have become a joke, a caricature but Noble has elevated Walter above the fray.

I can’t wait to see what trauma Fringe has in store for me tonight, no doubt I will be shocked and sad no matter what happens tonight.

I hope you watch and come back to share your thoughts after tonight’s episode.

February Sweeps Highs and Lows

23 Feb

As February 2012 sweeps draws to a close, lets take a moment to reflect on the highs and lows.

Strictly by the numbers, the Super Bowl with 113 million viewers was the big winner.  It was a pretty great game, the halftime show was ok and the commercials didn’t live up to the hype.  But the game was great.

Highs

Revenge: Who got shot? The big reveal was good, the build up was really good. The episode answered one question  and set up a whole host of others. I am really looking forward to the rest of this season.

Fringe:  Olivia remembers everything, and so is everyone else!!  Maybe Peter doesn’t have to go home, maybe they are all coming to him.

NCIS: Hello Jamie Lee Curtis.

The Good Wife: Will’s grand jury trial and suspension, Alicia and Klinda reunited and it feels so good.

House: Chases arc, House under review, now that is how you do a final season. Well done.

Downton Abbey: Grand drama as only the Brits can do it. If you missed it check it on iTunes or Netflix.

Lows

Smash: I had high hopes the pilot was strong, but the follow up episodes are tedious and Katherine McPhee can’t act.

Glee: What have they done to this show, it used to be fun, with the singing and the dancing. Not its teen marriage, suicides and car accidents. Really Quinn gets back on the cherios only to become paralyzed in a car accident. Is Ryan Murphy, the genius who brough us Nip/Tick and American Horror story even checking in on this mess anymore. The creativity is gone, the show is done.

Hart of Dixie: Big deal everyone found out Lemon found her mother, Zoe found out about Lemon and Lavon. Big Yawn Fest. Stick a fork in this on its not getting renewed.

Castle: This show has definitely lost its way. The season started strong with Beckett’s shooting and recovery, but its lost its way. The Noir episode was dull and the big two part Castle event with Jennifer Beals felt like it was missing something.

What did you think of sweeps what were your highs and lows.

Thursday 1/23 What You Should Watch

The Vampire Diaries is a repeat tonight, again not sure I understand the programming monkeys at The CW, TVD is one of their highest rated shows and they bench it during sweeps.

All the rest of the stations are all new

CBS has The Big Bang Theory, Person of Interest and The Mentalist.

NBC is all comedy with 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, The Office and Up All Night

Wednesday 1/22 What You Should Watch

22 Feb

Revenge is not on tonight, instead the programming monkeys over at ABC have on some silly special about celebrities before they were famous.  Revenge is the break out hit of the season and they bench it during sweeps.

At least the rest of ABC’s line up is intact, so we have Suburgatory and Modern Family to help wash away the misery of hump day.

As far as the other networks, NBC can offer us Whitney, Are You There, Chelsea and Law and Order SUV before they are cancelled.

CBS has Survivor and Criminal Minds and CSI , The CW has One Tree Hill and Fox has American Idol.

Glee SPOILERS

21 Feb

If you haven’t seen tonight’s episode of Glee stop reading now.

Glee is that happy show, full of song and dance right? Well not tonight.

Karofsky attempts suicide because he can’t deal with being gay.

And Quinn is (dead?) a victim of texting and driving

Ryan Murphy what have you done to my show.  Maybe this is why the show is on a 7  week hiatus, perhaps TPTB want New Directions to take a New Direction.

I miss the Britney Spears and Lady GaGa episodes.

Tuesday 1/21 What You Should Watch

21 Feb

Ringer, Ringer is what you should watch, every week it kicks the drama up another level with new twists and characters.  I really hope CW brings this show back. Do we really need a “Beauty and The Beast” re-do or a show about The Green Arrow.

All the usual suspects are new tonight, Glee, NCIS, NCISLA, New Girl, Cougar Town and The River.

Tonight’s episode of Glee is the last new episode for 7 weeks, it is the big regionals face off between New Direction and The Warblers. I wonder who will win, is it possible that Glee will have the kids lose regionals and the last episodes before Kurt, Rachel and Finn graduate will take on a much different tone. Or will they win regionals and finally win the national championship.  I guess the seven week hiatus will tell the tale. Apparently Ryan Murphy is stepping back from the show to focus on other projects. Remember how that turned out for Buffy and Supernatural when their masterminds stepped back.

Ringer

Bridget runs into an important figure (Misha Collins) from her and Siobhan’s past; Malcolm tries to keep an eye on Henry after making a discovery; Catherine (Andrea Roth) asks Andrew to make a big decision.

New Directions and the Warblers face off at regionals.

The River

Episode: A Better Man
As the search for Emmet continues, the group finds one of his missing crew members exhibiting symptoms of a mystical curse; Lincoln tries to be the moral compass of the group.
