TV Ratings Friday: ’20/20′ Whitney Houston Special Leads ABC Win; ‘Fringe’ Steady; ‘Undercover Boss’ Way Above CBS Scripted – Ratings | TVbytheNumbers

18 Feb

A Gifted Man moved to 9pm,  and even though it had more viewers than 20/20 it had a lower rating/share, so it lost out.  The fate of this show depends on how pilot season turns out for CBS. It could also come back mid-season next year, but it will need a major overhaul.

Fringe held steady over last week, which is good, but Fringe’s hold steady is still pretty bad.

20/20 had a Whitney special, what is there left to say. Is Whitney any different then Judy, Marilyn, Elvis, Heath, Michael or DJ AM, they all died from prescription drug overdose. Not hard drugs, not street drugs, but legal regulated drugs born of a billion dollar industry. That coupled with the cult of celebrity, of people who indulge the meal ticket who don’t try to save them.

After his death Priscilla turned Elvis, his image his home into multi-billion dollar industry. Have you noticed how much more of Michael Jackson’s image and music is available more then ever before.  Look at how they are positioning Paris to step into Daddy’s shoes.  Sure we laughed when Michael made them go out in public with masks on, at least he was trying to protect them.

The are rushing Whitney’s final film, Sparkle to release earlier then planned. I expect the single to be released any day now, and remastered re-releases to full up iTunes. All in the name of providing for Bobby Kristina, but who will see to her emotional health, her spiritual guidance. She has already had a run in with drugs. I am sure Clive Davis has already cut her demo.

Friday 2/17 What You Should Watch

17 Feb

A Gifted Man moves to 9pm tonight, it will remain in this time slot thru March when it completes it’s first season. Odds are it won’t be renewed, if it is, look for a big changes.  I guess the season ending cliffhanger will have something to do with Kate leaving her husband and ending up on Michael’s doorstep.

Last week on Fringe they dropped a bombshell, amber Olivia has the memories of Peter’s Olivia. I suspect they were injected by the mystery men we saw a few episodes back.  The plot of last week’s episode centered around blending alt-universes together. Are we headed that way this season, if we are will Walter find the safe zone to prevent total destruction?  The observer told Olivia she was going to die, last years season finale had Alt-Olivia dying, this year I think this Olivia has to die so Peter can get home. Now that AMber Olivia has other Olivia’s memories she and Peter will grow close, and her death will be bitter-sweet as Peter goes home with the memories of the Amberverse. But will Olivia be alive when he gets there?

Blue Bloods and Supernatural are also new tonight.

Fringe

As the team investigates a mentally ill patient who seems to be connected to a series of murders, frightening clues and connections lead Olivia to a shocking conclusion.

Supernatural

Thursday 2/16 What You Should Watch

16 Feb

The Vampire Diaries was pretty much a yawn fest last week.  Lets see if we can step it up this week. Judging from the description below, it looks like more of the same. Bonnie and her mom are back, boring. And big surprise Elijah proposes something to Damon and Stefan that puts Elena in danger.  There was a running joke on Buffy, whenever Dawn was in danger Buffy used to say it must be Tuesday (the same day the show aired). It must be Thursday since Elena is in danger.

I really hope they wrap this originals storyline up soon, there is still time to salvage the rest of the season.

Sweeps continue so everything is all new tonight, the highlights, Big Bang Theory, Person of Interest, 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation and Grey’s Anatomy.

The Vampire Diaries

Elena discovers Damon’s most recent indiscretion; Abby (Persia White) and Bonnie take part in a ritual to appease spirits of nature; Elijah (Daniel Gillies) presents Stefan and Damon with an ultimatum that puts Elena in danger

The Big Bang Theory

Sheldon and his nemesis, Kripke (John Ross Bowie), compete for a corner office; Penny feels uncomfortable after receiving a gift from Amy.

Episode: Blue Code
Reese infiltrates a smuggling ring in pursuit of the latest person of interest

Grey’s Anatomy

Amelia arrives at Seattle Grace to beg Derek to help with the gliosarcoma case; Cristina and Owen have heated arguments during marriage counseling; Alex realizes he needs to improve his people skills in order to be a good doctor.

30 Rock

After Jack is mugged, he decides to run for mayor so he can protect the city’s elite; Liz puts herself ahead of the good of the city; Jenna and Paul try acting like an average couple.

Parks and Recreation

Episode: Dave Returns
Leslie and Ben run into Leslie’s ex (Louis C.K.) while soliciting an endorsement from the Chief of Police; Andy leads the search for a campaign theme song.

2 for 2 This Week

15 Feb

Spoilers below.

This week I am two for two in guessing the twists on two of my favorite shows.

First up, Ringer, I called the Juliet rape storyline was totally going to be a take off on the Denise Richards, Neve Campbell movie Wild Things and it was. Juliet, Tessa and Mr Carpenter set it all up so Carpenter could sue Juliet’s father for money.  If they follow the story through, someone is going to end up dead, so they don’t have to split the money 3 ways.  Does Mr. C kill Tessa, try to kill Juliet and she kills him in self defense?

Second tonight on Revenge, I have been saying for weeks Tyler would be shot on the beach not Daniel, and I was right. I also predicted Daniel would go on trial and based on previews and a few interviews that are out there it sounds like I got that one right too.

I know it won’t happen this week, but I still predict Olivia will die on Fringe before the season is over.

SPOILER ALERT Revenge “Chaos”

15 Feb

If you haven’t seen tonight’s episode of Revenge and you don’t want to be spoiled, then stop reading now.

Proceed at your own risk.

You have been warned.

Just like I predicted, Tyler was shot, and Daniel is going on trial for his murder.  Real Emily is back, but not for long, Amanda’s Revenge sensei Mr. Takeda took her away.  According to the shows creator Mike Kelly, the identity of the murder will be revealed by the February 29th episode.  My money is on Takeda, Real Emily is just too obvious.

The show is also going thru a time jump, it will flash forward to Christmastime and everyone will have moved back to New York City.  I also here Charlotte is going to start doing her best Valley of the Dolls impersonation to deal with the revelations about her father.

Jack will be going in search of FakeAmanda. And Daniel is going to begin a downward spiral, his murder trial is only the tip of the iceberg.

Thanks to my mom who lives in NJ, she gave me the heads up.

Wednesday 2/15 What You Should Watch

Smash “The Callback”

14 Feb

In my previous life I was an actress, musical theatre to be exact, just like the girls on Smash. I suffered through many callbacks. Last night’s episode of Smash was a bit of walk down memory lane.

We open with Karen (Katherine McPhee) singing call me to an audience filled with the folks at the show who have not called her back yet.  Really show, really, a little heavy handed and cheesy don’t ya think.

Cut to a meeting with Julia (Debra Messing), Tom (Christian Borle), Derek (Jack Davenport) and Eileen (Anjelica Houston), the creative team debating who should be cast Ivy Lynn (Megan Hilty) or Karen.  Tom is totally team Ivy Lynn, while Derek is totally team Karen, Julia and Eileen are referring.  Tom’s assistant, Ellis (Jamie Cepero) is listening at the door, he is totally up to no good.

Obviously since the episode is titled The Callback we know they can’t make a decision and we must have another callback. And we are off.

The episode also touches on the ridiculous adoption sub-plot and Karen’s relationship with her boyfriend Dev, (Raza Jeffrey). We all know both of these will end badly so lets just wrap those up now.

Best song suggestion ever, Joe DiMaggio, Jack Kennedy and Arthur Miller singing about what they look for in a woman.

Spoiler Alert when all is said done Ivy Lynn gets the job, I am thinking sleeping with director may have helped.  But her joy will be short-lived, when Uma Thurman comes in as the big Hollywood star to boost ticket sales.

Eventually both Karen and Ivy Lynn will be cast, one as Norma Jean and one as Marilyn, the understudy thing has been done to death after “All About Eve” what show could even come close.

Tuesday 2/14 What You Should You Watch

14 Feb

If you are like me and watching TV thru the bottom of a Vodka bottle this Valentine’s Day, then cheers!!

Ringer just keeps raising the bar, last week Henry learned the truth about Bridget, Siobhan and the baby.  Tessa came forward to say Mr. C raped her too, I think they are all in on it together. Remember the movie Wild Things, the rich girl, the poor girl and the boating teacher team up to get money from the rich girl’s mother.  Great movie with Kevin Dillon, Kevin Bacon, Neve Campbell and Denise Richards.

It’s Valentine’s Day and nothing says VD like sappy love songs, Glee is all new.

NCIS and NCIS LA is also new.

Cougar Town‘s season premiere is tonight at 8:30 on ABC

Monday 2/13 What You Should Watch

13 Feb

House gets the top spot tonight, it was announced last week that House will not be coming back next year.

Smash debuted to solid ratings last week, will it hold on in week 2, tonight will tell the tale. I am not sure how long they can keep up the dueling diva storyline once they cast one of the girls, unless the other is the understudy.  Are you on team Karen or team Ivy Lynn, don’t get me wrong Katherine McPhee is really talented, but Megan Hilty is a force. If the show doesn’t work out I predict big things for this young lady. She has made her mark on Brodway, now she will hit it on TV and Film.

Hart of Dixie, last week Lemon’s secret about finding her mom came out. Tonight Zoe will find out about Lemon and Lavon’s affair, will she tell George? Of course not?  I predict the season finale or the second to last episode will be the wedding and the secret will come out. Season 2 will be about the aftermath.

Alcatraz, I am recording and watching a few days later. It is interesting but I don’t schedule my life around it like TVD, Revenge or Ringer.

This season of House has been one of it’s best, last weeks episode was fantastic, the previews for tonight’s show promise more of the same.

House

Episode: Chase
As Chase treats Moira (Julie Mond), a cloistered nun who is on the verge of making life-altering vows, they form a connection that causes Moira to question her faith; Taub and House take part in a series of pranks.

Castle

Episode: Pandora

Smash

Episode: Callbacks
Ivy and Karen work to please the director as they pursue their dream role; Julia and Frank struggle with the adoption process; Eileen works to finance the musical.

Alcatraz

Episode: Paxton Petty
The team uses methods of the past to track former inmate Paxton Petty, who has returned to plant bombs in populated areas of San Francisco.
