Oscars 2012 The Red Carpet

26 Feb

I am watching the Red Carpet arrivals on E! Entertainment Television.

2 questions, 1. Who died and made Kelly Osbourne a fashion expert? She is talking about what makes a dress timeless, etc, where is her fashion degree, she sat first row at fashion week, she threw up on Anna Wintour, what are her credentials. She has skull and cross-bones tattoos on her feet for crying out loud. 2. Who picked out Guliana Rancic’s dress, it is horrible.

Love watching Ryan Seacrest schmooze with everyone, when Ryan started doing this years ago he was just a guy doing the red-carpet just getting his deals with AI and E!, now he is a major player. He has multimillion dollar deals with E!, he is worth a ton of money and is rumored to take over for Matt Lauer.  “As one power player to another, what are you wearing?”.

Anywho.. on to the fashion.

Best and Worst of 2011

26 Dec

It’s that time of year when everyone is releasing their best and worst lists for 2011.

So here’s mine

Best

Revenge – Ahh 80’s soap drama how I have missed you.

Ringer – This show knows how to set up and knock em’ down. Over the top and fast paced, not quite as soapy as Revenge but just as intriguing.

Once Upon A Time – This is my warm cup of hot cocoa with marshmallows on cold winter night. Satisfying to the taste, the tummy and the brain chemistry that lives off the chemical reaction chocolate delivers.

Drive – Sure Ryan Gosling was amazing, but Albert Brooks was a revelation. I will never view Broadcast News the same way again.

Mathew McConaughey in The Lincoln Lawyer – Showed that he is still the actor who delivered a powerhouse performance in A Time To Kill and all those romantic comedies were just to pay the bills.  Lets hope this is the beginning of Mathew’s second act.

Ryan Gosling in everything, enough said.

Kung Fu Panda 2  and Puss in Boots – I am not a big kiddie movie fan, but these two films have scripts that rivaled live action movies this year. And the animation was mind-blowing, what artistry.

Homeland – The season finale was a cop-out, much like The Killing, but the rest of the season more than made up for it. Just like The Killing I hold out hope for season 2.

Fringe – What can I say, I love this show.

Brad Pitt in Moneyball – This is an Oscar worthy performance, I have my fingers crossed.

The Help – Viola Davis Oscar watch.

Mission Impossible 4 – This was the best action movie of 2011. Loved every second of it.

Worst

Grimm – I had high hopes for this show, I wanted to like it. It left me flat and I could care less.

Secret Circle – What a disappointment, the cast is unwatchable the acting terrible.

The Playboy Club

Rooney Mara in Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

Nancy Grace and the Casey Anthony trial

Twilight Saga: Braking Dawn Part 1 – This book didn’t need to be 2 movies, let alone one.

Jack and Jill – Why do comedians whose careers are failing think cross dressing, multiple characters movies will revive their careers?

I am sure there is more than what I have on this list, these are the things that came to mind.

What made your best and worst list for 2011?

Ryan Gosling was ROBBED SAG Nominations 2011

14 Dec

The nominations for the 18th annual Screen Actors Guild awards were announced this morning,  the awards will be given out Sunday January 29th on TNT at 8pm EST/5pm PST.

NO Ryan Gosling, not one nomination, the man was in three major movies this summer, he showed depth and range and he couldn’t get one nod. But they had plenty of time to nominate 2 foreign dudes. Really!!!!

Maybe the Golden Globes will come thru, or even the Oscars, but that is soooo political and Ryan doesn’t play the kissy face Hollywood game.

Remember the SAG’s, unlike the Oscars are only voted on by actors, so predicting the winners is more about rewarding the craft of acting then playing politics.

Male Actor in a leading role (film)

2 Foreign dudes, whatever

George Clooney for The Descendants – I haven’t seen this one yet, but I have heard nothing but great things about George’s performance.

Brad Pitt – Moneyball – I saw this and I must saw this is one of Pitt’s finest performances, it’s a master class on being not acting.

Leonardo DiCaprio – J. Edgar – I saw this, and he was incredible, but his performance was weighed down by that horrible script.

Prediction – If they don’t go with a foreign dude, I say Pitt should go home a winner.

Female Actor in a leading role (film)

Glenn Close – Albert Nobbs – Didn’t see it, I heard she impersonates a man.

Viola Davis – The Help – I saw this, and she was magnificent. If she doesn’t win, I will be very disappointed

Meryl Streep – The Iron Lady – She is the great one, so I am sure she is magnificent, but come on Viola needs some love.

Tilda Swinton – We Need To Talk About Kevin – ah no

Michelle Williams – she is a few more nominations away from her win

Prediction – Viola Davis

Ensemble Nomination (Film) – its kind of like Best Picture

The Artist – enough already with this movie, you know it is going to be nominated for an Oscar.

Bridesmaids – Totally shocked at this one. You go girls.

The Descendants – We know, deep family tragedy, blah blah

The Help – Please let these ladies get there due.

Midnight in Paris – Clever, but come on Owen Wilson was in it.

Prediction – The Help

Some of my favorite nominations

Nick Nolte for Warrior

Octavia Spencer for The Help (I hope she wins)

Jessica Lange for American Horro Story (I hope she wins)

Kyra Sedgwick for The Closer,  the show is going off the air, she can be nominated next year for the episodes airing this summer, but it would be nice if she won. Julianna Margulies has won enough already.

Surprises

Not a single nomination for Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

Nothing for Hugo

Bryce Dallas Howard was not nominated for The Help

Connie Britton and Taissa Farmiga were not nominated for American Horror Story

Kathy Bates for Harry’s Law

Christine Baranski was not nominated

Patrick J. Adams from Suits was nominated. This is a great show, USA was must be so psyched one of their actors got nominated.

The full list can be found here SAG Nominations.

Don’t forget the Golden Globe nominations are announced tomorrow, Thursday December 15th.

Oscar Bait

21 Oct

A new trailer hit the inter-webs today, it’s for Angelina Jolie‘s directorial debut, In the Land of Blood and Honey.  I read about this while it was in production, it is supposed to be very deep and serious. It tells the story of a doomed and fairly twisted relationship between a Muslim woman and a Serbian soldier in war-torn Bosnia. Angelina is absolutely one of the best actresses working today, she is truly talented, it’s a shame she is so ugly. If she knocks it out of the park as a director, Jennifer Anniston should move to Guam.

The academy usually eats this shit up, and they love Angie, it will be interesting to see if she gets any noms for her freshman effort. I am sure the Golden Globes will gush all over this, because they really love Angie and Brad. And we all know what the Golden Globes are really about, more popularity contest and less political then the Oscars.

Let’s take a look at a few more contenders, in no particular order, J. Edgar, the Clint Eastwood directed Leo DiCaprio starring bio-pic about J. Edgar Hoover. Could this finally be the year they give Leo the Oscar he deserved for The Aviator and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.

David Fincher‘s adaptation of The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo, I love David Fincher, he was totally robbed last year, he should have won the best director Oscar for The Social Network, maybe he will get it this year. But this is raw edgy material, which Fincher excels at, Seven anyone, but the more conservative academy doesn’t always embrace.

I can guarantee that Rooney Mara will get nominated for her role as Lisbeth Salander, it won’t matter if she is good or not, she is naked, tattoo’d and pierced, they love young girls, the academy has been kind of pervy like that over the last few years.  There is a joke in Hollywood, if you are woman and you want to get nominated for an Oscar (and you are not Meryl Streep), play a hooker, a slut, or if you are pretty make yourself ugly.

While we are on best actress, there are only four available slots since Meryl Streep’s Margaret Thatcher bio The Iron Lady is in contention, Meryl always gets nominated, and she deserves to be,  she is consistently great in everything she does, no matter how crappy the movie (Its Complicated) she elevates it. I hear Kirsten Dunst is very good in Melancholia, she won the Best Actress award at Cannes. But this also may be too weird for the Academy. But, she is topless.

Lets talk best actor, shall we, my money is on Ryan Gosling for Drive, he will also get a SAG nomination. George Clooney for The Descendants, and one of the british dudes from Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.  I also predict a globe nomination for Gosling’s comedic turn in Crazy Stupid Love.

Supporting actor, Albert Brooks performance in Drive is not only worthy of a nomination but a win. This is the stuff of Oscar legend, I also predict Christopher Plummer for Beginners.

Even though I know neither of these actors has a snowball’s chance in hell of getting nominated, both Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton deserve some sort of recognition for their performances in Warrior.  Tom Hardy’s performance was unbelievable, he absolutely broke my heart in the last fight scene. I was bawling my eyes out. If you didn’t see this movie, you must see it when it comes out on DVD.  When I showed my boyfriend some of Hardy’s other work, he couldn’t believe it was the same actor.

And a last wish, I am not asking for a win, just a nomination for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt 2. It was a really good movie, the best of the franchise, with Order of the Phoenix second. A nomination would show that the academy knows how to respect the impact this series had on movie making. For ten plus years hundreds of people devoted their lives to the craft of movie making, and with each movie they surpassed the technical and artistic achievement of the earlier films.  They gave the stinky Hobbit movies an Oscar, the least they could do is nominate Harry Potter.
