Homeland – “Achilles Heel”

21 Nov

Last nights episode of Homeland, “Achilles Heel” made it very clear that everything you think you know about this show is wrong.

The last five minutes of last night’s episode turned the show again in a new direction or is it back to the same direction it was before Brody’s “confession”. I really believed everything Brody told Carrie in “The Weekend”, boy do I feel stupid.  What a great liar Brody is, I already thought Damian Lewis‘ performance was fantastic, tonight’s reveal sealed it.  Mr. Lewis we will see you at the Emmy’s.

Back to the episode, Brody and his family reconciled, Carrie will always be alone, Saul and his wife officially broke up, the CIA is on Tom Walker’s trail and Brody is being courted to run for Congress.  The last bit is a little to Manchurian Candidate for me, this show is too smart for that, so I am sure it will turn again.

Tom Walker, is alive, turned and on the run with a gun. His wife let him know his call was being traced and he was able to escape. Due to a communications screw up, two innocent men where shot in a Mosque while they were praying.  There is going to be some fallout from that I am sure.

I have no idea which way this show is going, which is fine by me. I like smart TV that you can’t figure out, it keeps you guessing and builds on itself every week.

This was another stellar episode with great performances. I am sure we will also see Claire Danes at the Emmy’s next September. Not sure if Mandy Patinkin will make the cut, but he should.  I have followed his career since he was on Broadway as Che in Evita. What a voice!!

Here is a sneak peek for next week

Homeland The Weekend (spoilers)

14 Nov

Don’t read this if you haven’t seen the episode.

Last night’s episode of  Homeland,” The Weekend”, launched the show in a whole new direction, guaranteed to keep the action going for this season into next. This was only episode 7 of 12, we still have five more this season. Plenty of time to twist and turn into a whole new show.

Carrie and Brody hit the road, spending the weekend at her family cabin. Every time I think she is spiraling out of control, and the lack of meds plus alcohol is getting the best of her we see she is just playing with Brody. Bravo Danes.

Saul (Mandy Patinkin) tracks down Aileen, who has seen the turned soldier. Quick question, why didn’t Saul ask her to briefly describe the man she saw, as soon as she said a black man, Saul wouldn’t need Brody’s picture. Seems like a dumb move for such a smart show. Their road trip together and the discussions Saul and Aileen had about conformity and her background were riveting.

I know Saul asked to be transferred to the field, but I think Estes will be revealed as the mole and Saul will get his job. He will be able to bring Carrie back, saving her job.

Jess and Mike discuss their past, while Dana spirals out of control.  I don’t think it would be a great loss to this show if they wrote Brody’s family out of the series.  It works better if he is single.

I called it last week, Tom Walker would turn up alive and be the turned solider.  Now of course, just because this episode and the previews lead us to believe he is turned doesn’t mean he is, there could be another twist. Shows like this rarely show their cards without holding more than a few back.

Are you buying it, or, are you like me, do you need more proof.

The scene on the porch between Brody (Damian Lewis) and Carrie was (Claire Danes) was riveting, his answers were so believable, if he is still laying a trap he is very convincing. His rationalization for why he became a muslim was so truthful. How many prisoners turn to religion after they are locked up out of despair, and he was right the King James Bible wasn’t available.

I really want Brody and Carrie to stay together, I like them, I think they will make fantastic partners at the CIA.  I think that is the next logical move for Brody, when they confirm he is definitely not a threat they will offer him a job. It will take a while, lots of akward moments between him and Carrie but they will get together.

Carrie on the other hand has some serious issues to deal with, first she was so convinced it was Brody, will she lose her job. She has her mental state and medication issues to resolve.

Does Brody end up in and her out. I am in for the rest of this season and next.

Preview for next week’s episode, “Achilles Heel”.

Homeland “The Weekend” Sneak Peaks

12 Nov

Last week’s episode of Homeland was crazy, between the backyard brawl between Brody and Mike, the polygraph tests everyone took, Carrie and Brody having drunk sex in the back of his car to Carrie jumping in his car at the end of the episode.  Where could they possible go this week

Here are two sneak peaks to help us figure that out

Homeland – The Good Soldier

7 Nov

The Good Soldier, who is the good soldier tonight on Homeland.

Is Carrie (Claire Danes)  the good soldier for arranging the polygraphs, so she can trap Brody in a lie, or is she a good soldier for sleeping with Brody(Damian Lewis)  in order to create her own very creative control question. Is Brody the good soldier, for delivering the eulogy at Tom Walkers memorial, the man he beat to death when they were being held captive.  Or for sleeping with Carrie all in the name of his “mission”  Is Aileen Morgan the good soldier, who is a homegrown terrorist who has recruited Fazel in her plot, he is the perfect cover after all.

Tom Walker’s memorial was certainly moving, as Brody called out each member of the unit, they stood and said “here”, when he called out Tom’s name the silence reverberated thru the church echoing the hole left in everyone’s life.

Well this show definitely kicked it into high gear last night.  Who’s zooming whom, I am convinced that Brody and Carrie know what each other is up to and all their actions are to keep ahead of the other. Since we know the show has been renewed for second season the show can go in one of two directions, they do not reveal Brody’s status, or we find out he is not the turned soldier and becomes part of the mission to find out who is.

The cookout after Tom Walkers memorial certainly gave us plenty of options, it could be anyone of them, heck it could be best buddy Mike. Brody finally let him and Jessica know he knows about the affair with his fists.  Whether or not the couple break up remains to be seen.

Aileen, who is part of a US terror operation escapes execution when Fazel’s cover is blown. She is on the run, and if the previews are to be believed will be picked up by the CIA next week.  Also based on the previews Carrie and Brody are hold up in a cabin somewhere having marathon sex.

What about Saul, he failed the polygraph the first time thru, and wiggled through the second one. Whats that old saying about hiding in plain sight. Overall the polygraph was a nice tool used by the writers to get more information about these characters.

This show has built the tension, and gone in a very different direction then I thought it would. It will be interesting to see how the Brody Carrie relationship develops, and if this show explores US based terror which all experts predict is the next threat not foreigners.

Check out back episode at sho.com, this show is worth your time.
