Golden Globe Predictions

15 Jan

The Golden Globes are tonight, while not the most accurate predictor of the Oscars, they are the most fun. Ricky Gervais is hosting, and if you caught his act las year you know you are in for some fun. Nobody bites the hand that feeds like Ricky.

Here are my predictions (in bold)

FILM

Best Motion Picture – Drama – I saw all of the nominees except War Horse, and I have to say that The Descendants was the best.
“The Descendants”
“The Help”
“Hugo”
“The Ides of March”
“Moneyball”
“War Horse”

Best Motion Picture – Comedy Or Musical – I saw everything on the list except for The Artist, and I based on the GG’s history and buzz on the net. I think The Artist will win, even though I think 50/50 was really great.

“50/50”
“The Artist”
“Bridesmaids”
“Midnight in Paris”
“My Week With Marilyn”

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama –  If Viola Davis doesn’t win it will be a crime. The Hollywood Foreign press is unpredictable, so it could be Tilda Swinton or Rooney Mara. There are plenty of examples in GG history of them being the only award an actor or actress wins all season.

Glenn Close – “Albert Nobbs”
Viola Davis – “The Help”
Rooney Mara – “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo”
Meryl Streep – “The Iron Lady”
Tilda Swinton – “We Need to Talk About Kevin”

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama – I really want this to be Brad Pitt’s year, George has an Oscar, its time to share the wealth.  But I think it will be George.

George Clooney – “The Descendants”
Leonardo DiCaprio -“J. Edgar”
Michael Fassbender – “Shame”
Ryan Gosling – “The Ides of March”
Brad Pitt – “Moneyball”

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy Or Musical – I did not see My Week With Marilyn, I didn’t think it was a comedy. Anyhow, Michelle has all the buzz, so I will go with her.

Jodi Foster – “Carnage”
Charlize Theron – “Young Adult”
Kristen Wiig – “Bridesmaids”
Michelle Williams – “My Week With Marilyn”
Kate Winslet – “Carnage”

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Comedy Or Musical – If I was picking it would be Ryan Gosling, but since I am not its the dude from the artist.

Jean Dujardin – “The Artist”
Brendan Gleeson – “The Guard”
Joseph Gordon-Levitt – “50/50”
Ryan Gosling – “Crazy, Stupid, Love”
Owen Wilson – “Midnight in Paris”

Best Performance by an Actress In A Supporting Role in a Motion Picture – This is a tough category, if i was picking I would go with Ocatavia Spencer, but since I am not its the chick from The Artist. Jessica Chastain could be the upset.
