SAG Awards 2012

29 Jan

The post includes the winners, so if you haven’t seen tonight’s broadcast, please stop reading now.

The opening for the SAGs is cute, actors talking about their first jobs, or why they became an actor.

One thing the SAG‘s does right is no host, just announcer who introduces the presenters.  No monologues, no bad jokes, it makes the show go much faster.

First up Michelle Williams, who looks stunning in a red Valentino gown. She is presenting Best Supporting Male Actor. No surprise here, Christopher Plummer wins for Beginners.

George Clooney and Shailene Woodley present the clip from The Descendants, the print of Shailene’s dress is the same floral motif used on the movie poster.

Don Cheadle is presenting, Best Supporting Female Actor, again no surprise, a very deserving Octavia Spencer wins for The Help.

Next up, Julianna Marguiles (ugly dress) and Bryan Cranston are presenting Best Male Actor in a Comedy. What in the plaid shirt hell is Ty Burrell wearing. The winner is Alec Baldwin.  This is a crime, both Ty Burrell and Erin Stonestreet are so much better. How could he possible have won this 6 times in a row. What is the membership of SAG smoking.  Alex has dropped the pounds, he looks good, almost back to his Jack Ryan days.

Regina King and Kyle Chandler, here to present, Best Female Actor in a Comedy.  Kyle looks a bit puffy, I guess he can let himself g now that he isnt’ playing a football coach every week on TV.  They just gave us some fun facts about the nominees, the best one, Eddie Falco played cookie monster for children’s parties.  And the winner is Betty White. Ok I get it she is a legend, but she won this last year.

The SAG awards used to be interesting, now they are becoming boring and predictable and like The Emmys. BOOOOOO!!!!!

Jessica Chastain is introducing a short film about the importance of the local actors used in various films and how they enrich the experience.

Next to Brad and Angie, Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon are my other favorite Hollywood couple. And here they are now to present. Kyra looks incredible, she is ageless.

Do you think anyone actually eats the food at these things.

Outstanding Ensemble in a Comedy,  Modern Family, thank God is wasn’t 30 Rock.

The announcer just listed who is up next, is it hard to get up and present are you have lost.

Glenn Close (looking stunning) and Kenneth Branagh present Female Actor in a TV mini-series or Movie, it has to be Kate Winslet, and it is.

Time for a clip from The Help introduced by Viola Davis, ok Viola such a fabulous actress, such a bad dress, body sparkle and hair. Hope you clean it up for the Oscars. Emma Stone, such a cuties and Octavia Spencer.

Next up, Zoe Saldana, she has come along way since Center Stage and Armie Hamer.  Pretty and prettier. Armie must be doing a period flick, because he is sporting some serious 70’s side burns.

The are presenting Male Actor in a TV Movie or Mini Series, OMG I am so happy Paul Giamatti won. He is so fantastic it is about time he won.

They just showed Michelle Williams and again she brought Busy Phillips with her, she was also her date for the Golden Globes. I guess they became BFFs during their Dawson Creek days. I think they should come out, they can be our next gay super couple.

Ken Howard (Coach from the White Shadow), president of SAG is speaking now. He is announcing, that AFTRA and SAG are merging into a big super union.

Kristin Wig, Maya Rudolph and Melissa McCarthy are introducing a clip from Bridemaids. They did a funny a bit about a drinking game they came up. You have to take a drink every time someone mentions Scorsese.  So they all try to work the name in a bunch of times and each do shots of what appears to be real alcohol. It looks like Melissa is pounding Vodka.

Dick VanDyke takes the stage, gets a standing ovation, as he should. TV comedy pioneer.  Is here to present the life time achievement award to Mary Tyler Moore.

Judy Greer and Ed Helms present Female Actor in a Drama Series, and the winner is Jessica Lange.  I really wish it would have been Kyra, there is always next year. The Closer has one more season this summer.  Jessica’s hair is a mess, it looks like they put a false piece in the back that looks like it is made from dolls’ hair.

Berenice Bejo and Jean Dujardin to introduce a clip from The Artist.  Beautiful people, beautiful accents.

Tina Fey and John Krasinki to present Male Actor in a Drama Series, and the winner is Steve Buscemi, he won last year. Steve totally played the drinking game, he brought up some wine,  and thanked Martin Scorsese, but Tina Fey took his wine so she drank for him.  Nice.  He told the Michael Pitt fans to stop yelling at him on the street, he knows and he is sorry. In case you didn’t know they killed Michael’s character off this season, it was quite the scandal. The interwebs were ablaze with rumors that he was fired for being “difficult”.

Meryl Street is on to introduce the In memoria segment, there are always a few actors who pop that I forgot died, and there will be a news piece tomorrow because they forgot someone. Last year I think they forgot Corey Haim, it was a big deal.

Lets see who died this year. James Arness, Jayne Russell, Sada Thompson, John Dye, Peter Falk, Cliff Robertson, Michael Sarrazin, Charles Napier, Jackie Cooper, Michael Gough, John Neville, Dana Wynter, Harry Morgan, and Liz Taylor just to name a few.

Dallas is back this summer on TNT, to present the next award we have Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray and Larry Hagman. I think Larry has cancer and unfortunately doesn’t look well.

They are presenting, Ensemble in a Drama, and the winner is Boardwalk Empire, they won last year. Is Michael Pitt there? Yes he is, looking oh so disheveled. I guess Michael is learning to play the game, that talent isn’t enough. You must play politics and kiss ass if you want to win awards and get ahead.  Steve does the speech, says Scorsese, everyone takes a drink.

Owen Wilson and Kathy Bates introduce the clip from Midnight in Paris.

Natlalie Portman is presenting Best Male Actor in a Film.  OMG big upset, Clooney doesn’t win. Jean DuJardin from The Artist.  Does this mean George may not win the Oscar.  remember only SAG members vote for SAG, the Oscars is a broader base, including directors, producers, cameramen etc.

Ben Kingsley is here to present Best Female Actor in a Movie, and the winner is Viola Davis, so richly deserved. But unfortunately in that dress, with all that body glitter.  She gets a standing ovation, in her speech she pays tribute to Cicely Tyson and Meryl Streep.

Brad Pitt is here to present Ensemble in a Movie and the winner is, The Help.  Well done ladies, so deserved.

SAG Awards 2012 Predcitions

28 Jan

TNT will air the 2012 Screen Actor’s Guild Awards on Sunday January 29th at 8/7 central.

Here are my predictions, I select by who will win, who should win, and if applicable my dream win.

The Artist

The Descendants – should win, this cast knocked it out of the park, there wasn’t a weak link among them.

The Help – will win, don’t get me wrong there were some strong performances in this movie, but not everyone was up to the same level.

Midnight in Paris
