Fall 2012 What’s On When

4 Sep

Sunday is a tough night for the first half of the TV season because of Football, and this year it gets tougher, the games will be starting later. But that didn’t stop CBS from keeping “The Good Wife” in it’s 9pm slot from last year and moving “The Mentalist” to 10pm. I wonder if this will be it for Simon Baker and crew, at the end of this season it will have 116 episodes, plenty for syndication beyond TNT.

ABC moved its breakout hit “Revenge” to 9pm, followed by rising star “666 Park Avenue”. 666 should benefit from Revenge’s lead in, but will it hold the audience.  I don’t know about you but Sunday doesn’t exactly scream drama about the devil night, maybe its just me.   “Once Upon A Time” is back at 8pm.

Look for football to win the first half of the season, and ABC to win the second.

Monday – ABC isn’t messing with the formula, its “Dancing with The Stars” at 8 and “Castle” at 10.

For as long as I can remember CBS Monday night at 9 was the time slot for comedy success. 2 Broke Girls moves into that slot this year, 2 1/2 Men has moved to Thursday.  Former champions of the 9pm slot, “Everybody Loves Raymond” and “Murphy Brown”. CBS debuts the new sitcom “Partners” in Girls old spot at 8:30.

Fox is going with “Bones” at 8, “The Mob Doctor” at 9pm, I wonder what is going to take Mob Doctor’s space when it is cancelled in 3.2.1.

But the biggest news is NBC at 10pm, “Revolution”, the new JJ Abrams show about what happens when the power is out.

Tuesday is still NCIS night on CBS, comedy night on FOX and low ratings night on NBC.  Same as last year.

Check out “The Mindy Project” 9:30 on Fox, Vegas at 10 on CBS and yes I will be back for more “Hart of Dixie” 8pm on The CW, followed by “Emily Owens, MD” for as long as it lasts. I don’t think Meryl Streep herself could save this one.

Wednesday is all about ABC, from 8 to 10 its the comedy block, new entry ‘The Neighbors” will be cancelled and “Happy Endings” will be back with its Wednesday family before long. But the biggest event is at 10pm “Nashville” , everyone who has seen it, says this is the one to beat this year, the new champ.

The CW has “Arrow” at 8 and “Supernatural” at 9, I know your asking is Supernatural sill on, well yes it is and this is it’s 8 season. Holy Smokes!

Thursday has three new entries, “Elementary” (Sherlock Holmes show), “Last Resort” (submarine thriller) and The CW’s “Beauty and the Beast”(this year’s secret circle).

We still have “Grey’s Anatomy” followed by “Scandal”, “The Big Bang Theory” and “2/1 Men”.  What else is on, lets see, let me think, oh yeah, VAMPIRE DIARIES.  It’s on, have you seen the trailer I posted earlier.

Friday, for me its all about “Fringe”, the final season, 13 episodes of bliss. Followed by “Blue Bloods”.

Saturday I remember when Saturday was must see TV, “The Love Boat“, “Fantasy Island”, now its repeats, crime and football.

Got all that?  Book mark Zap2it.com, best listing and news site on the net.  Even better than TV Guide.

Fall 2012 TV What I am excited about

29 Aug

I can’t believe it has been a year since I was going all weak in the knees for Ringer, Revenge and Once Upon A Time.  It’s that time again, what to watch this year.

So what am I excited about this year? Quite a bit actually, and as always the 3 episode rule applies, its rare when a pilot nails it, you have to give a new show at least three episodes to settle and give the viewer some indication of where it is headed.

So which shows get at least three episodes?

666 Park Avenue – Terry O’Quinn and Vanessa Williams star, it looks pretty campy and the premise sounds silly. Click on the title to read it. But, I will give it 3, who knows it could be the big break out of the fall. But I doubt it.

Revolution – Bill Burke and the electronic apocalypse. Interesting premise, no more power, simpler times, maybe maybe not. Created by Eric Kipke (Supernatural),  it plays on a basic fear and a simple desire, to return to a quieter time, a slower pace.  Lets see how it plays out, its either Lost or The Event.

Vegas – Dennis Quaid and Michael Chklis star in this period drama, its sheriff vs mob in old school Vegas. Expect lots of Rat Pack references.

Go On – Mathew Perry sitcom, he is getting over the death of his wife with the help of a support group.  We’ll see sitcoms are tricky.

Emily Owens, MD – I loved Mamie Gummer on The Good Wife, lets see how she does on her own. It looks like Ally McBeal meets Grey’s Anatomy meets Mean Girls,  but I will give it a shot.

Nashville – Connie Britton, that’s all I needed to hear and I was in.

Chicago Fire – This is all about the eye candy for me Exhibit A and B.

Arrow – And more eye candy, based on how succesful Smallville was and how pretty Tom Welling was, I am all set to watch this al season. CW knows how to bring the pretty boys to my screen.

Elementary – The BBC Sherlock re-boot airing on Masterpiece Mystery is fantastic, and Benedict Cumberbatch‘s take on Holmes is genius.  SO why do we need this version, I guess we will have to tune in to find out if we really need another “quirky” detective series. Just like lawyers before them, they seem to be all the rage lately.

Beauty and The Beast – Curiosity factor only, I wan to see if Kristin Kreuk can play anything besides Lana Lang. I doubt I will stick past three, but The CW could shock me and make this nonsense work. Note to CW, how can a beast be a beast with one huge scar, that’s not much of a beast.

Returning Favorites, Once Upon A Time, The Good Wife, Revenge, 2 Broke Girls, Bones, Smash (mid-season), Happy Endings, Hart of Dixie, Supernatural, Scandal, Big Bang, Glee, Blue Bloods.

And the biggies, my favorites, the reason I love Thursday and Friday, The Vampire Diaries and Fringe.  Dude, Elena’s a vampire and this is Fringe’s last season.  Can’t f’ing wait, its on!!!

Tuesday 4/24 What You Should Watch

24 Apr

Ringer ended last week, so now Tuesday’s are just Glee for me, which is pretty sad because it has really gone down hill.

Glee has the Whitney tribute episode tonight, the MJ epi was pretty good let’s see how this goes.

The CW is premiering some new show tonight called The LA Complex, it’s looks like a Fame reboot.

New Girl and 90210 are new tonight, if that is your thing.

The club pays homage to Whitney Houston; Emma and Will move closer to their dream wedding.

The L.A. Complex

Episode: Down in L.A.
Abby, a broke aspiring actress, finds a place to crash in Los Angeles and meets a group of displaced dreamers.

New Girl

4/4 Wednesday What You Should Watch

4 Apr

When the hell is Revenge coming back, this is just ridiculous. Way to kill momentum.

Tonight is the season finale for Happy Endings, 9:30 on ABC, if you haven’t seen this show you are missing a great comedy. Catch up on iTunes.

One Tree Hill signs off for good tonight, the series finale airs at 8pm on The CW.

3/20 Tuesday What you Should Watch

20 Mar

Glee still isn’t back, it isn’t scheduled until mid April. But in case you wanted to know if Quinn survived the car accident, there are plenty of pictures taken on set when they filmed the next few episodes.

The River wraps up its run tonight, the series finale airs at 9 on ABC.

NCIS and NCIS LA are all new, so if the FOX comedy block.

Top Spot: Ringer, will Andrew survive getting shot ( of course), will he be paralyzed. Will Shiv drop the whole revenge thing. I don’t belive this is about getting back at Bridget for Sean’s death, she isn’t that sentimental.  After tonight, we only have 4 episodes left, The CW still hasn’t decided if the show is coming back.

After someone tries to kill Bridget, Agent Machado commits himself to finding the responsible party; Henry suspects Siobhan of putting a hit on her sister; Andrew confesses to asking Malcolm to leave; Juliet disappears.

The River

As the Magus travels to the final destination, one of the crew is shot; Jahel asks a spirit for help.

Episode: The Tell
When classified information is leaked, the Secretary of the Navy (Matt Craven) investigates alongside Gibbs and Dr. Samantha Ryan (Jamie Lee Curtis).

Bubble Watch – Is Your Show on The Bubble

24 Feb

As always thanks to Tv By The Numbers for providing the stats and analysis.

Bubble Watch is a guess on a shows future based on its performance in the key 18-49 demo.

I check the ratings for my favorite shows every week, I know most of my favorites are on the chopping block.  (sniff)

Network By Network her is what is on the Bubble (likely to get cancelled) unless all of the pilots fail miserably, these shows are getting cancelled. (maybe, we are only guessing)

The CW

Getting Cancelled

Hart of Dixie and Ringer : I am not surprised HOD is done, it started out promising, but it has crumbled into the biggest pile of crap.  Ringer on the other hand,  has turned into a tightly written noir piece, too bad it can’t find an audience.  I am going to miss Ioan Gruffod, (purr).

On The Bubble

Supernatural: Its time, the show lost its center when Kripke left, it never regained its former rock anthem glory.

The Secret Circle: The only thing that could save this show is Kevin Williamson’s overall deal with the network, minimum seasons maybe part of his contract unless they pick up one of his new pilots.

Nikita, Gossip Girl and 92010.

Body of Proof and The River – DOA or up a river without a paddle, pick your cliché

Private Practive is on the Bubble, I guess we will see how Shonda’s new pilot does.

Pretty much everything else, Revenge, Castle, Suburgatory etc are coming back,

A Gifted Man and Unforgettable – weren’t gifted, and were pretty much forgettable, they are cancelled

The Good Wife, CSI: NY, Rob and Rules of Engagement are on the Bubble. I think Good Wife and CSI will be back.

Everything else is safe for now, depends on how strong the pilots are, they may need to make a little more room. Could the original CSI hang it up, maybe CSI Miami is done for, or what about The Mentalist.

Pretty much everything they have on is in trouble, but Community, Smash, Are you There?, Chelsea and Harry’s Law are in the most.

Other shows hanging by a thread, Parenthood, 30 Rock and Up All Night.

Looks like Grimm is getting renewed as is Law and Order SVU.

It would be easier to tell you what is coming back, Glee, New Girl and Bones.

Alcatraz, Terra Nova, Napoleon Dynamite, Fringe and The Finder are likely to get cancelled.

On The Bubble as of 12/19

20 Dec

So let’s check the status of some of our favorites

Fringe – according to TV By The Numbers, Fringe has met the 88 episodes needed for syndication. What does that mean, well it is likely it will be cancelled.  All I ask is the network gives the show enough notice so they can really end the show, give the fans a decent payoff for the loyalty we have shown. It ain’t over till it’s over, and until I see the word cancellation and Fringe in a headline on TVLine I will keep hope alive.

A Gifted Man – Certain cancellation, with the news that CBS is moving it to Friday at 9 and not ordering more new episodes.
I would say this one is a goner. I just hope Patrick Wilson has an overall deal at CBS and he will be back in a new show soon.

Body Of Proof – Likely cancellation, this show started strong, Dana Delany is fantastic. But somehow it go off track, I can’t explain it, the formula just didn’t work and the sub-plot with her X and her boss was distracting.  Time to break out the China Beach DVDs.

I Hate My Teenage Daughter – Likely cancellation, this should be listed as certain, but it’s still hanging. It doesn’t have any competition now, just wait until the ABC Wednesday night comedy block is out of repeats.

Bones – On the bubble, the last few seasons have been terrible, so FOX should really put it out of its misery. Booth and Bones are having a baby, the show ruined the big payoff and killed the romance. The show jumped the shark when it made Zac Gormagon’s apprentice.  I wonder if David Boreanaz will get another show, if he does that would be his fourth in a row.  He’s like a modern-day Ted McGinley.

Hart of Dixie and Ringer are both on the bubble.  It’s too soon to tell, if they will get another season. I think it depends on what The CW has in way of pilots for next year.  Neither show has great ratings, but what does The CW except for The Vampire Diaries.

Monday 12/19 What You Should Watch

19 Dec

It’s the week before Christmas, lets see what the networks have in store for us.

Terra Nova’s season finale airs tonight. I didn’t watch this one, and the word on the street is it may not be back. I sure do wish Jason O’Mara would land on a show that lasts. This is his second time up at bat.

CBS comedy block and Hawaii 5-0 are repeats.

ABC has on some holiday specials and a Castle repeat

The CW has 2 full hours of Hart of Dixie repeats.  At 8 they are showing “In Havoc and In Heat”, a fun outing, that used old “heat wave” plot device to allow the characters to go a little sexy-crazy.

Hart of Dixie

The heat wave in Bluebell causes everyone to lose their inhibitions; Lemon readies herself for George’s family.

Terra Nova

Lucas, Mira and the mysterious Phoenix group try to pillage the past; Taylor and Jim team up to take a stand; a decision permanently changes life in Terra Nova.

House, Hart of Dixie and Repeats Monday 11 28 What You Should Watch

28 Nov

And so it begins, November sweeps are over and the holiday season is upon us, here come the repeats.  If we are lucky enough to get new episodes they are few and far between and this week will probably be the last of the new until after the new year.

Enjoy the new stuff while it lasts, soon enough it will be the TV version of fruitcake for all. Lots of crap no one wants to eat.

CBS is all repeats, Hart of Dixie and House are all new.  Time to give Hart of Dixie a try, pretty please with sugar on top.

 Top Spot

Hart of Dixie, tonight we get a very BlueBell Thanksgiving in an episode titled “The Pirate and The Practice.   Only a quirky little show like HOD could pull off a pirate themed Thanksgiving. 9pm on The CW

Sneak Peek

Hart of Dixie

Zoe’s trip home for Thanksgiving is complicated by her obligation to acquire 30 percent of the practice’s patients; Lavon urges Wade to be honest about his feelings; Lemon is upset when George receives a job offer from his father.

During an interrogation at the witness stand, a prosecutor has what he thinks is a heart attack; Wilson is determined to prove that House is hiding something; Park starts to come out of her shell.

Monday – What You Should Watch

21 Nov

Here are a few suggestions for your Monday night.  Listings come courtesy of Zap2It

ABC is premiering a new show called You Deserve It, tonight at 9pm. The title made me think it was a get even show, but after I read the description for tonight’s episode I realized it is one of those tear jerker good will game shows.

“A high-school teacher competes to win money for her best friend, who is raising her two kids alone after her husband’s death in a diving accident.”

Top Spot goes to Castle

Second, 2 Broke Girls and 2 1/1 Men, these shows are hysterical.

House has really come back from last season, if this is it for the venerable medical drama, then they will truly go out on top.

Finally I am still pimping Hart of Dixie, last weeks episode solidified all the love triangles. I am totally on the Wade/Zoe bandwagon.

Here is a great article from TVLine about Castle’s emotional episode titled “Kill Shot” that has Beckett facing her post traumatic stress syndrome as the city hunts down a sniper.

Episode: Kill Shot
The team searches for a sniper who is terrorizing New York; Beckett tries to hide her worsening PTSD from Castle and the detectives.

2 Broke Girls

Max and Caroline apply for jobs as elves in a department store to earn extra money during the holiday season.

Two and a Half Men

Walden meets an attractive British woman but remains hesitant to start dating

Hart of Dixie

Lavon tries to help Zoe feel more connected to Bluebell by asking her to host his annual pre-game homecoming party; Wade and George try to get even with their high school nemesis.

Episode: Dead & Buried
The team discovers its teenage patient isn’t just being dramatic when her symptoms worsen; House becomes consumed with determining the cause of a 4-year-old’s death; Park tries to get Chase to admit why he has become obsessed with grooming.
